AETHERIA MOD LICENSE
Version 1.0, 2026
Short Identifier: AML-1.0

Copyright (C) 2026 Hamlock and Contributors

This License governs the use, modification, and distribution of the Aetheria
Mod and its source code. While it incorporates certain copyleft concepts
inspired by free software licenses, it is not the GNU Lesser General Public
License and should not be interpreted as such. The purpose of this License
is to promote transparency and public auditability of software distributed
under its terms. The rights granted by this License are subject to the
conditions and restrictions described below.

1. DEFINITIONS

1.1 "License" means the Aetheria Mod License, Version 1.0 (AML-1.0).

1.2 "Project" means the Aetheria Mod and all source code covered under
this License.

1.3 "You" means any individual or entity exercising permissions granted by
this License.

1.4 "Original Author" means Hamlock, or any successor designated in writing
by Hamlock.

1.5 "Modification" means any change made to the Source Code, Compiled
Build, metadata, dependencies, build configuration, or any other
component of the Project that alters its content, behavior, or
identity in any way, including but not limited to editing source
files, adding or removing dependencies, changing version strings,
altering build scripts, or modifying any files that affect the
resulting Compiled Build.

1.6 "Derivative Work" means any work based on or incorporating code from
the Project, including forks, Modifications, or partial copies.

1.7 "Compiled Build" means any executable, compiled, packaged, obfuscated,
transformed, or otherwise usable form of the Project intended to be
run by an end user, including but not limited to JAR files, bundled
distributions, installer packages, and modified client distributions.

1.8 "Contribution" means any source code, patch, pull request,
documentation, or other material intentionally submitted for inclusion
in the Project, regardless of whether it is ultimately accepted or
merged.

1.9 "Public Distribution" means publishing, hosting, or facilitating
access to a Compiled Build of the Project or any Derivative Work in
a manner accessible to any person or entity beyond yourself, including
but not limited to:

     (a) Publishing a Compiled Build on any platform such as GitHub,
Modrinth, CurseForge, or any other file hosting or mod distribution
service, regardless of whether the release was promoted, advertised,
         or shared.

     (b) Sharing or linking to download locations for a Compiled Build in
any public or semi-public space including servers, forums, posts,
or websites, including links to third-party mirrors or unofficial
         hosting locations.

     (c) Distributing any patch, installer, updater, binary difference,
reconstruction tool, or similar mechanism whose primary purpose
is to create, modify, or reproduce a Compiled Build of the
Project or a Derivative Work for an end user.

     (d) Directing, instructing, or otherwise facilitating any person to
obtain a Compiled Build from any source other than the Project's
         official distribution channels.

For the avoidance of doubt, merely linking to an Official Release hosted
on the Project's official distribution channels in accordance with
Section 3(d) does not constitute Public Distribution.

Public Distribution does not include making source code publicly
visible, shared, forked, or modified in any repository, source-code
hosting service, or public channel, provided no Compiled Build is
     published or distributed alongside it.

Automatic build artifacts produced by continuous integration systems
shall not by themselves constitute Public Distribution, provided such
artifacts are not intentionally published as releases, linked to
publicly, or otherwise promoted for end-user distribution.

1.10 "Private Distribution" means sharing a Compiled Build directly with
specific named individuals through a direct and private channel such
as a direct message or private file transfer, provided that no more
than five individuals in aggregate receive that Compiled Build through
this means. Any distribution that does not qualify as Private
Distribution under this definition and is not otherwise permitted
under Section 3 is considered Public Distribution and requires Written
Permission under Section 4. Sharing within a team, staff group, or
any group of more than five people is not considered Private
Distribution regardless of whether that group is internal or private.

1.11 "Commercial Use" means use primarily intended for commercial advantage
or monetary compensation, including but not limited to selling the
software, selling access to a service that depends on the software, or
using the software in a product or service that generates revenue. The
following are not considered Commercial Use:

     (a) YouTube videos or Twitch streams featuring the Project.

     (b) Patreon-supported modpacks that include the Project.

     (c) Ad-supported websites that merely reference the Project.

     (d) Operating a Minecraft server that uses the Project while accepting
voluntary donations, provided access to the Project itself is not
sold or restricted based on payment.

1.12 "Written Permission" means express written authorization from the
Original Author through a documented channel such as email or direct
message. Written Permission is granted per release, applies only to
the specific Compiled Build and authorized party identified in the
permission, and is irrevocable for that release unless a material
breach of this License occurs, but does not extend to any future
releases or distributions unless explicitly stated.

1.13 "Official Release" means a Compiled Build published directly by the
Original Author, a contributor explicitly authorized by the Original
Author, or a successor designated in writing by the Original Author,
through the Project's official distribution channels.

1.14 "Source Code" means the preferred form of the Project for making
Modifications, including all source files, build scripts, configuration
files, dependency declarations, and other materials used to produce or
included in a Compiled Build or Official Release.

Source Code does not include API keys, environment files, credentials,
secrets, or configuration values intended to remain private and not
     compiled into the build itself.

1.15 "Project Branding" means the names Aetheria, JEF, Just Enough
Fakepixel, and any associated logos, icons, or visual identifiers
used to identify the Project or its authors.

2. CONTRIBUTOR AGREEMENT

By submitting a Contribution to the Project, You represent that You have
the right to license the Contribution and authorize the Original Author
to administer and enforce this License, including granting Written
Permission for Public Distribution of Derivative Works that incorporate
Your Contribution. Contributors retain copyright in their own Contributions
and grant the Original Author and any successor designated under Section
1.4 the right to relicense those Contributions under future versions of
this License only. A Contribution becomes part of the Project only when
accepted and merged by the Original Author.

3. LICENSE GRANT

Subject to compliance with this License, You are granted a non-exclusive
license to:

     (a) View, study, use, and modify the Source Code.

     (b) Publicly view, share, fork, and modify the Source Code of the
Project provided no Compiled Build is published or distributed.

     (c) Share Compiled Builds through Private Distribution as defined in
         Section 1.10.

     (d) Share links to Official Releases publicly without requiring
Written Permission, provided the link directs to an Official
Release hosted on the Project's official distribution channels
and is not used to misrepresent the source or authorship of
         the Project.

     (e) Include an unmodified Official Release of the Project in a publicly
distributed modpack without requiring separate Written Permission,
provided the Project files are not modified, repackaged, or
redistributed separately from the modpack, and are sourced directly
         from an Official Release.

     (f) Submit Contributions to the Project under the terms of this License.

4. RESTRICTIONS

4.1 Except as permitted under Section 3(e), You may not publicly
distribute or host a Compiled Build, including unmodified Official
Releases, without obtaining Written Permission from the Original
Author prior to that distribution. Sharing links to Official Releases
hosted on the Project's official channels is permitted under Section 3(d)
and does not require Written Permission.
This applies regardless of whether the release is promoted or actively
shared, and regardless of the platform used. Written Permission is
granted per release and applies only to the specific Compiled Build
identified in the permission at the time it was granted, in the exact
state it was in when permission was issued. Each permission must
identify the specific Compiled Build it covers, the authorized
distribution platform or method, and the name of the authorized party. Any subsequent Modification to that Compiled Build or its
contents voids the Written Permission for that release, and new
Written Permission must be obtained before the modified version is
distributed. It does not extend to any future versions or additional
distributions unless explicitly stated. Once granted, Written
Permission for a specific unmodified release is irrevocable for that
release, but does not authorize any subsequent release.

4.2 You may not use the Project or any Derivative Work for Commercial Use
without Written Permission from the Original Author. This includes
but is not limited to locking access to an Official Release behind
advertisements, paywalls, or any form of payment or exchange,
regardless of whether the Official Release itself is modified.

4.3 You may not sublicense, relicense, or apply different license terms
to any portion of the Project or any portion of a Derivative Work
that is derived from or incorporates the Project's Source Code.
Works that are not derivative works of the Project and do not
contain Project Source Code may be licensed under different terms
at the author's discretion.

4.4 All rights in Project Branding are reserved by the Original Author
unless expressly granted in writing. You may not use Project Branding
to identify, promote, or name any Derivative Work, fork, or
redistribution in a way that implies official endorsement by or
affiliation with the Original Author without Written Permission.
This includes but is not limited to using the names Aetheria, JEF,
or Just Enough Fakepixel as the name or part of the name of any
fork, release, or related project. This restriction does not
prohibit factual references to the Project for purposes of
compatibility, attribution, commentary, or identification, such
as stating that a work is a fork of or compatible with Aetheria.

5. SOURCE AVAILABILITY

Any Project or Derivative Work that is publicly distributed under this
License must make all covered Source Code publicly available at all
times. This is a mandatory condition of this License and cannot be
waived. No party may publicly distribute a Project or Derivative Work under
this License while keeping any portion of covered Source Code private
or restricted.

This obligation applies to the Original Author and to any party granted
Written Permission to distribute a Derivative Work. No party shall be
exempt from the requirements of this Section solely by virtue of owning
copyright in the Project, administering this License, or being designated
as the Original Author.

Any Derivative Work that is publicly distributed under Written Permission
must make publicly available the Source Code of all portions that
incorporate or are derived from the Project.

Works that are not derivative works of the Project and do not contain
Project Source Code are not subject to this obligation.

Source Code must be accessible without cost, without registration, and
without any barrier to access, and must remain publicly available at all
times.

If a party becomes unable to maintain public access to the Source Code due
to circumstances beyond their reasonable control, such as account suspension,
platform termination, or similar events, they shall not be considered in
violation of this License provided they make reasonable efforts to restore
public access or mirror the Source Code on an alternative platform within
five days.

For an unmodified Official Release distributed under Section 3(e)
this obligation is satisfied if the corresponding Project Source Code
is publicly available from the Project's official repository.

6. ATTRIBUTION

Any distribution of the Project or a Derivative Work must include clear
credit to the original Project and its authors. Existing copyright notices
must be retained. A link to the original repository must be included where
reasonably possible.

The following notice should be retained in source files covered by this
License:

     Copyright (C) [year] [copyright holder]
Licensed under the Aetheria Mod License (AML-1.0)

7. TERMINATION

Any attempt to exercise rights granted under this License while in violation
of its terms is void, and all rights granted under this License terminate
automatically upon such violation. However, if the violation is cured within
five days of the Original Author providing written notice of the violation,
the rights granted under this License will be reinstated. The Original Author
reserves the right to pursue any remedies available under applicable law in
the event of a violation that is not cured within that period.

8. SEVERABILITY

If any provision of this License is found to be unenforceable under
applicable law, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent
necessary to make it enforceable. If modification is not possible, the
provision shall be severed from this License. The remaining provisions shall
continue in full force and effect.

9. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY

THE PROJECT IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL
THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER
LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING
FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE PROJECT OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS
IN THE PROJECT.

10. LICENSE VERSIONS

The Original Author may publish revised versions of this License. Unless
otherwise stated, a project licensed under AML-1.0 remains licensed under
AML-1.0 and is not automatically subject to later versions. The Original
Author may offer the option to use a later version, but no such obligation
exists on either party.

11. ENTIRE AGREEMENT

This License constitutes the entire agreement between the parties regarding
the Project and supersedes any prior understandings, agreements, or
representations concerning the subject matter herein.

12. THIRD-PARTY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

This License applies only to the Project and does not grant any rights
to Minecraft, Mojang, Microsoft, or any other third-party intellectual
property.

Minecraft is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation. Use of the Project
may be subject to the Minecraft End User License Agreement, Commercial
Usage Guidelines, and other applicable terms imposed by Microsoft or
its affiliates.

Nothing in this License shall be interpreted as granting permission to
use, copy, modify, distribute, or exploit any third-party intellectual
property except to the extent separately permitted by the applicable
rights holder.

13. CONTACT

To request Written Permission for Public Distribution or Commercial Use,
contact the Original Author by opening an issue on the official project
repository, or by reaching out directly through any publicly listed contact
information on the repository.
