Village Quest Licensing Notice

Effective for Village Quest 2.0.0 and later releases that include this notice.

Copyright (c) 2026 Raphael Huschin

Village Quest is distributed as a mixed-license package. Different parts of the
project are governed by different terms. No license named in this notice grants
rights to material that the named licensor does not own or have authority to
license.

1. Source code

Unless a file or directory states otherwise, the functional source code of
Village Quest is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version
3.0 only (LGPL-3.0-only).

This includes the Java implementation, build logic, project-maintained scripts,
and functional configuration needed to build and run the mod. The complete GNU
General Public License version 3 and GNU Lesser General Public License version 3
texts are provided in COPYING and COPYING.LESSER.

The LGPL permits modification and redistribution of the covered code subject to
its terms. It does not grant rights to the protected assets, creative content,
name, logo, or branding described below. A code fork must replace or separately
license those materials before distributing a complete modified mod package.

2. Original assets and creative content

Unless stated otherwise in THIRD_PARTY_ASSETS.md or in an individual file, all
original textures, models, animations, sounds, music, written dialogue, quest
prose, characters, artwork, logos, promotional material, user-interface art,
and other creative assets created specifically for Village Quest are:

Copyright (c) 2026 Raphael Huschin. All Rights Reserved.

This reservation applies only to the extent that the material is protected by
applicable law and the stated copyright holder owns the relevant rights. It does
not claim third-party material, underlying third-party characters, trademarks,
Minecraft assets, or rights that cannot legally be claimed.

Except for the limited package-use permission below, these original assets and
creative materials may not be extracted, copied, modified, redistributed,
sublicensed, sold, or used in another project or derivative work without prior
written permission from the copyright holder.

3. Limited permission to use official releases

You may download an official, unmodified Village Quest release from a channel
authorized by the copyright holder and:

- install and run it with Minecraft;
- use it for private play or on a Minecraft server;
- make reasonable private backup copies; and
- create screenshots, gameplay videos, streams, reviews, and other ordinary
  coverage of the mod.

This permission does not authorize extracting or reusing protected assets,
reuploading the mod, distributing it in a third-party modpack, selling it,
misrepresenting its origin, or distributing a modified package. Separate written
permission is required for those activities unless another applicable license or
law independently permits them.

4. AI-assisted and generated project assets

Some Village Quest interface art, promotional art, and other creative material
was generated or refined with software tools at the direction of the project
maintainer. Those files are treated as original project assets only to the extent
that applicable law recognizes protectable rights owned by the stated copyright
holder. No ownership is claimed over third-party works, characters, marks, or
unprotectable elements that may be referenced by such material.

5. Third-party assets and contributions

Some files were created by third parties and are not owned by Raphael Huschin.
They are excluded from the All Rights Reserved declaration above and remain
subject to the terms, permissions, attribution requirements, and legal rights of
their respective creators.

Known third-party and provenance-sensitive material is documented in
THIRD_PARTY_ASSETS.md. General software and dependency notices are documented in
THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md. Inclusion in Village Quest does not transfer ownership,
does not place that material under the LGPL, and does not grant permission to
reuse it separately.

An entry marked "unknown" or "unresolved" records missing provenance only. It
is not a license, permission, or representation that redistribution is lawful.

6. Name and branding

The name "Village Quest", its logo, and its associated visual branding are not
licensed under the LGPL. They may not be used to present an unofficial fork,
modified version, derivative project, product, or service as official or endorsed
without prior written permission.

This section does not prohibit truthful, nominative references that are required
to describe compatibility, identify the origin of LGPL-covered code, preserve
notices, or comply with applicable law.

7. Earlier MIT releases

Village Quest versions and copies that were already published under the MIT
License remain available under the MIT permissions granted with those copies.
Nothing in this notice revokes or narrows permissions already granted for an
earlier release. The historical MIT text is retained in LICENSE-MIT.

Material carried forward under compatible MIT terms retains its original notice
and may remain MIT-licensed even when it is distributed alongside LGPL-covered
Village Quest code.

8. No warranty for protected assets and content

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the protected assets and
creative content are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or
implied. The warranty and liability terms for LGPL-covered code are governed by
COPYING and COPYING.LESSER.
