Canyons are dry, exposed slopes made up of strips of red, yellow, and white clay. The wind has been grinding these layers for centuries, turning the hills into bizarre pillars, ledges and sheer walls. There is almost no rain here, sparse vegetation clings to cracks in the rock, and the shadows from the rocks save from the merciless sun. At sunset, the canyons are ablaze with all shades of fire. Sometimes traces of old tunnels and mines are found in the cliffs, as if someone had long ago tried to pull all their secrets out of these lands.
