Varasuchuses are intelligent predators known not for the flight or breath that many know dragons for, but their unbreaking persistence, strong jaws, and their tactical and emotional intelligence. Commonly found in aquatic areas with many hiding places, such as marshes or stony shores, Varasuchuses are ambush predators that lie in wait underwater and strike with practiced precision, delivering a quick death to most. While early witnesses believed them to be living seaweed that snatched up careless travellers and scared horses in an instant, more careful investigations revealed their nature as crocodilian dragons that were willing to wait for hours, if not sometimes days, to catch the ideal meal. Varasuchuses are able to afford these long wait times between meals due to their incredibly efficient metabolism that burns through almost no energy while stationary. This, while combined with their notable intelligence and pattern recognition, allows them to wait in high-traffic areas and snap down on passing fish and fishermen alike. One would do well to note that a noticed Varasuchus is not a harmless Varasuchus, as their intelligence works just as well to deflect blows from larger foes and open them up for a lethal bite.
